Calm Harbor 2 by RicArtt Calm Harbor 2 by RicArtt
This painting was done primarily in oils and a variety of oil mediums, over an acrylic wash, using a time consuming "layering" blend style/technique with paint over paint.  The blending with done by using either a small brush or sometimes my fingers, to build on the layer(s) below.  The time aspect was lengthy, due to requiring the paint to totally dry between each layer or overlapping color.  If you look closer or enlarge this picture, you will see some of the canvas cross pattern texture showing thru, with the paint floating on top of the high parts of the canvas.  This was a "work in progress" over a couple of years, and was done on a pretty large canvas.  (again...I am a bit of a perfectionist*)
My works and style are unique, but the end product works.  Especially in this piece.  Please enjoy this special piece and check out my other works, both the illustrations and other painting, on my site.  Thank you!

I can't say that I know exactly how much work you've put into this (as I would have absolutely no idea where to even start!) but I can tell that you've put a lot of work into this, and it's paid off! XD
This is amazing and really, really beautiful! I love how you've used mixes of different colours to emphasize the buildings, boats and trees as it adds a great depth to the image!
I love the sky too, the contrast between the light and dark shades with the clouds are incredible and I seriously have no idea how you've managed to do this! XD Awesome!
Keep it up!
(Sorry for the "misspelling of words like colour, I'm from the UK so that spelling is perfectly normal to me! But I know it annoys some people so I'm sorry!) XD
What do you think?

18 out of 18 deviants thought this was fair.

The dark colours to accentuate different objects like the boats and houses really make them stand out and really forces the eye to look at it and the attention to detail with the little windows that you've done, although the clouds around the outside feels as if they're closing in a bit on the buildings which makes it feel as if it's all cramped together. I really do like this piece and the way you've used the colours together, it's stunning and the little details like telegraph poles, windows, fences, and the paneling on the roofs are like a little extra treat!

thanks, and yes a long labor of love.  years to get it right!!  I am a bit of a perfectionist, and the style I use take a long time to dry between layers of paint.

thanks again, I just wish my "style" was not so time consuming!!  Calm Harbor was a work in progress over years** ... you should see my pencil illustrations, ie Pamela and Dreamer, more long projects!! ... lol.   I have many more pieces to add to DV, but I am trying to resolve the watermark issue first before I do, even though I am very new to DV.   About a month into my Prem membership so far.
