Calm Harbor 2 by RicArtt Calm Harbor 2 by RicArtt
This painting was done primarily in oils and a variety of oil mediums, over an acrylic wash, using a time consuming "layering" blend style/technique with paint over paint.  The blending with done by using either a small brush or sometimes my fingers, to build on the layer(s) below.  The time aspect was lengthy, due to requiring the paint to totally dry between each layer or overlapping color.  If you look closer or enlarge this picture, you will see some of the canvas cross pattern texture showing thru, with the paint floating on top of the high parts of the canvas.  This was a "work in progress" over a couple of years, and was done on a pretty large canvas.  (again...I am a bit of a perfectionist*)
My works and style are unique, but the end product works.  Especially in this piece.  Please enjoy this special piece and check out my other works, both the illustrations and other painting, on my site.  Thank you!

...Wow.
I can't say that I know exactly how much work you've put into this (as I would have absolutely no idea where to even start!) but I can tell that you've put a lot of work into this, and it's paid off! XD
This is amazing and really, really beautiful! I love how you've used mixes of different colours to emphasize the buildings, boats and trees as it adds a great depth to the image!
I love the sky too, the contrast between the light and dark shades with the clouds are incredible and I seriously have no idea how you've managed to do this! XD Awesome!
Keep it up!
~Ame
(Sorry for the "misspelling of words like colour, I'm from the UK so that spelling is perfectly normal to me! But I know it annoys some people so I'm sorry!) XD
What do you think?

:iconfrozencluster:
The dark colours to accentuate different objects like the boats and houses really make them stand out and really forces the eye to look at it and the attention to detail with the little windows that you've done, although the clouds around the outside feels as if they're closing in a bit on the buildings which makes it feel as if it's all cramped together. I really do like this piece and the way you've used the colours together, it's stunning and the little details like telegraph poles, windows, fences, and the paneling on the roofs are like a little extra treat!

thanks, and yes a long labor of love.  years to get it right!!  I am a bit of a perfectionist, and the style I use take a long time to dry between layers of paint.

thanks again, I just wish my "style" was not so time consuming!!  Calm Harbor was a work in progress over years** ... you should see my pencil illustrations, ie Pamela and Dreamer, more long projects!! ... lol.   I have many more pieces to add to DV, but I am trying to resolve the watermark issue first before I do, even though I am very new to DV.   About a month into my Prem membership so far.

I never seem to finish some of my pieces, and with a few, like this one, I sell the various "rights" for reproduction, and keep the originals.  This work has been sold in greeting card, calender, and small limited fine art prints, so far.   I will have it up somewhere to show case and promo the prints, and walk away from it for a while, work wise.  Then pick it back up later and want to develop it more.  As before, I am a bit of a perfectionist.  I just did Pamela last month, finished* it in a couple of weeks... she was not the norm .... lol.   I also needed to finish asap with her, both she and Dreamer are going to a magazine for future consideration.  Most of these units will also be on another major website for sell in large sized limited additions soon, available in the Giclee format.   I am discovering that DV is more of a social site, and not as much of the sell site that I really need, to help pay the bills ... lol.  Hopefully this will change over time with DV.

WOAH that is one HUGE resolution. I love this storybook/popup book style soo much!

Good job on the water colour blending style, I love the layering upon layering of acrylic wash/paint. It really worked fantastically!

Great colour choice and composition, this is such a nice piece *.*

Keep up the amazing work and have a nice day!

Ah, well it's when someone suggests your work to be featured cause of it's uniqueness and awesomeness and then
the person that says yes or no is the person who ultimately hands out the daily deviation (DD) :)

Every day the administrators of the DD's will feature a few artists pieces that where awesome :)

Your work was so awesome that they said yes and featured it :D Allowing you to get exposure and show your awesome work to everyone :)!

Still recovering, super busy.  Still trying to respond to most of the comments from the DD.  Finally finished all my personal watermarks and did most my research on pricing and supplies needed.  Will probably start my ETSY site next week, also considering Art Gallery for another outlet online.  Have done the research on PayPal, but have not set that up yet.  Have you ever heard of a art website called Society 6 ??  Someone else on DV has work on this site, I am not aware of their rep or anything about them!
What are up to??   .... any new work in progress??

hey, I am also "so" far behind on my DV stuff, so we both are in the same boat** ... lol.
I found a great site for you to also use, possibly you already are.  check out ArtPal, I spent most of last night setting up my work on this site.  They are a "art for sell" site like DV with a inhouse print shop option.  You can chose you markup, they recommend a commission for the artist of $10 usd per square ft. of art.  They run about the same for their markup.  So a 12 by 10 is aprox. $9.95 for them and $10+ for us.  You dump in your work the same way as DV, and add in you descriptions also the same way.  Their is NO upfront membership charge for the basic site or to sell art work.  They also have a "add a line" option for possible commission work or selling your original work.  The down side is that you need excellent photo files (jpegs or other) to upload, before the site will offer you the "print for sell" option.
I have 8 works already up with them, even a new football painting that you have not seen yet!!  I used RicArtt again there, for my name.  With all of your great work, you should look into them soon!!  Just remember the bigger/better art file size needed**

Ohhh my dear :iconaawplz:

You can learn all about it here ---> FAQ #61: What is a Daily Deviation? and here ---> FAQ #18: Who selects Daily Deviations and how are they chosen?

Basically, DD stands for Daily Deviation, and it's a "Feature" in which a small selection of artworks are shown around the entire site for one whole day!!! :omfg: ... This gives exposure to you for 24 hours!!!

I have a tendancey to work on many works at the same time and am a bit of a perfectionist... lol.  My layering style is very time consuming.  I do almost a "dry brush" approach in my oil paintings, with each color totally drying before the next layer.  You should ck out my illustrations, ie Pamela and Dreamer, those also took forever in my unique pencil style!!  thanks for the follow up and the great comments!!

Hello:
I have heard about that style of painting of letting each color to dry separately (I have only heard about it because I don't practice that, hehehe). I really bet that could take a looong time, but I think it is good that you do many works at the same time because that may help you avoid getting "burned-out"... and that is something we all really want to prevent at all costs, hehehe.

I am glad that system is working very good for you :) .

 Keep it up! :la: .

Oh noes, not the bills! I think I've fainted. .

But by looking at your work, I am sure you'll be able to get some good money out of comissions maybe. I hope you'll be able to do that, but I think that you were able to get a Daily Deviation might help get more attention towards your work :) (Smile) .
